Course Description

Today’s class is entitled The Role of a Community Artist, presented by soul drummer and vocalist: Dante' Pope.   

After telling us a little bit about himself, Dante' will explore and discuss the principles and ideologies required to become a successful community artist.

Dante' Pope

Dante’ Pope is a soul drummer-vocalist and native of Chicago, Illinois. Through music, he blends his gospel roots with a soulful swing that has been showcased all around the world. Pope is a newly elected Governor in the DC Grammy Chapter Board. Additionally, he collaborated on the 2019 Grammy-nominated album: 'Black Cowboys,' a collaborative project with Grammy-winning artist, Dom Flemons, and Smithsonian Folkways. His passion for arts in education has connected him with organizations such as The MusicianShip, DC Public Schools, The Mayor's Youth Employment Program, and Levine School of Music.Recently, Dante’ released his debut soul project, 'After Five Music,' while participating in the 2019 Strathmore Artist in Residence Program. He has toured with Kenny Wesley and the Soulful Nerd Band to Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Madagascar, Gabon, and Rwanda through The American Music Abroad Program. Pope served as Music Director for Grammy-nominated soul artist, Raheem Devaughn and the Crossrhodes. Additionally, he's toured the country with Grammy-winning artists Dom Flemons and Old Crow Medicine Show. Pope has collaborated with a host of artists based in various genres from jazz to afrobeat. His versatility as a percussionist is indicative of his outlook on life. Whether teaching or performing, Dante’s smile and happiness is palpable to all around him
